"He is Allah, the Creator, the Originator, The Fashioner, to Him belong the most beautiful names: whatever is in the heavens and on earth, do declare His praises and glory. And He is the Exalted in Might, The Wise.
(al Quran 59:24)

"The most beautiful names belong to God: so call on Him by them;..." (7:180)

It is not possible to perfectly translate the names and attributes of Allah from their original Arabic into English. However, here are some fairly close explanations.

Introduction

Allah's Name I begin, the Beneficent, the Merciful

He is Allah, there is no Allah but Him.

Allah has said ask from Me  through mentioning My names.
(Hadith Qudsi)

Religious scholars have related that Allah has three thousand names. One thousand are only known by angels, 1,000 known only by prophets, 300 are in the Torah (Old Testament), 300 are in Zabur (Psalms of David), 300 are in the New Testament, and 99 are in the Qur'an. This makes 2,999 Names. One Name which has been hidden by Allah is called Ism Allah al-azam: The Greatest Name of Allah.

The Asma al Husna is a gift given to the Muslims by Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) Who wanted mankind to praise Him day and night. The 99 names contained here have secret powers hidden in their meaning and they reflect the various attributes of Master of the Worlds. To be loved by the Almighty, one must love Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala). To love Him one must submit and subdue to the Creator. To benefit from the attributes of the Praiseworthy, the Asma al Husna must be recited and in return the benefits are numerous.

Even though recitations or dhikr is not among the five pillars of Islam, performing the dhikr of the Asma al Husna should become part of the practice of Islam altogether. The Most Beloved Prophet of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa (Salla Allahu Ta'ala 'alayhi wa aalihi wa Sallam) stated in one hadith, that Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) has 99 names and that whoever memorises them will go to heaven.

In the name of Allah the Gracious and the Merciful, this page has been written to convey the message of the Asma al Husna to all Muslim brothers and sisters. It should become a companion to the Muslims and help them in their remembrance of the Healer, the Protector and the Provider that Self-Subsisting One is.

Allah : The Greatest Name

In the name of God,
the infinitely Compassionate and Merciful.
Praise be to God, Lord of all the worlds.
The Compassionate, the Merciful.
Ruler on the Day of Reckoning.
You alone do we worship,
and You alone do we ask for help.
Guide us on the straight path,
the path of those who have received your grace;
not the path of those who have brought down wrath,
nor of those who wander astray.           Ameen.   Al-Fatiha

Hand is above hand, child, in skill and in strength,
up to the Essence of God.
The ultimate end of all hands is the Hand of God:
the ultimate end of all torrents is undoubtedly the sea.
From it the clouds take their origin,
and in it, too, the torrent has an end.

[Mawlana Rume Rehmatullahi alaih,  Mathnawi IV:3162-3164,]

And God's alone are the attributes of perfection; invoke Him, then, by these, and stand aloof from all who distort the meaning of His attributes.

[Al A'Raf  7:180, ]

Say: "Invoke God, or invoke the Most Gracious:
by whichever name you invoke Him,
He is always the One - for His are all the attributes of perfection."

[Al Isra 17:110,]

Allah is He, other than Whom there is no other god;
Who knows both what is hidden and what can be witnessed;
He is the Most Compassionate and Merciful.
Allah is He, other than Whom there is no other god;
the Sovereign, the One, the Source of Peace,
the Guardian of Faith, the Preserver of Security,
the Exalted, the Compelling, the Supreme.
Glory be to God, beyond any associations.
He is Allah, the Creator, the Evolver, the Bestower of Form.
To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names:
Whatever exists in heaven and earth declares His Praise and Glory.
And He is Exalted in Power, the Wise.

[Al Hashr  59:22, ]
