Introduction
The word du'a in Arabic means "calling" - the act of remembering Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala and calling upon Him.
Aside from the daily prayers, Muslims are encouraged to call upon Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala for forgiveness, guidance, and strength throughout the day. Muslims can make personal supplications or prayers (du'a) in their own words, in any language, but there are also recommended examples from the Qur'an al kareem and Sunnah.

Once Prophet Muhammad
passed by a people who were suffering from some affliction. "Why don't they make du'a (pray ) to Allah for protection," he said. With all the suffering and disasters Muslims are facing in various parts of the world, the question can be directed to all of us today.
It is not that we have forgotten du'a completely; we refer to it regularly. But, our ideas and practice regarding dua have become distorted. Often it is reduced to the level of a ritual. Generally it is considered when all our efforts have failed --- an act of last resort. It is belittled through actions and sometimes even with words. Is it any wonder that today mostly a mention of du'a is meant to indicate the hopelessness of a situation.
What a tragedy, for du'a is the most potent weapon of a believer. It can change fate, while no action of ours ever can. It is the essence of ibadah or worship. With it we can never fail; without it we can never succeed. In the proper scheme of things, du'a should be the first and the last resort of the believer, with all his plans and actions coming in between.
Du'a is conversation with Allah, out Creator, our Lord and Master, the All Knowing, the All Powerful. This act in itself is of extraordinary significance. It is the most uplifting, liberating, empowering, and transforming conversation a person can ever have. We turn to Him because we know that He alone can lift our sufferings and solve our problems. We feel relieved after describing our difficulties to our Creator. We feel empowered after having communicated with the All Mighty. We sense His mercy all around us after talking to the Most Merciful. We get a new commitment to follow His path for that is the only path for success. We feel blessed with each such commitment.
In every difficulty our first action is du'a, as is our last. We ask Allah to show us the way to handle that difficulty; we seek His help in following the path He shows to us; we seek His aid in making our efforts successful. When we fall sick, we know that we cannot find the right doctor without His Will; that the best doctor may not be able to diagnose our condition without His Command; that the best treatment plan will not succeed without His Permission. We make du'a for all of these. We make du'a before we seek medical help, while we are receiving it and after it has been delivered. The same is true of all other difficulties we may encounter.
Du'a is the essence of ibadah. A person engaged in du'a affirms his belief in Tawheed (monotheism) and shuns belief in all false gods. With each du'a his belief in Allah grows. He beseeches Him, affirming his own powerlessness. A person seriously and sincerely engaged in dua understands exactly the relationship between himself and the Creator and affirms it through his actions. That is the essence of worship! Additionally, such a person can never become arrogant or proud, a logical result of true worship.
Du'a is our most potent weapon in all struggles of life as well as in jihad in the battlefield. During the battle of Badr, the Prophet Muhammad
We should make it a point to make du'a for all things big and small. It is the beginning of wisdom to realize that big and small are arbitrary labels that are totally irrelevant in this context. Nothing is too big for Whom we are asking from; nothing is too small for the one who is asking. That is why we have been taught to ask Allah when we need something as small as shoelaces. We should ask as a beggar, as a destitute person, for that is what we in reality are in relationship to Allah. At the same time we should ask with great hope and conviction that we shall be granted our prayers. We should remember the Hadith: "There is nothing more dear to Allah than a servant making dua to Him." On the other hand, a prayer lacking concentration and conviction is no prayer at all.
We should make dua at all times, not only during times of distress. The Prophet Muhammad
We should ask for all of our needs: those related to this world as well as those related to the Hereafter. Those who only concentrate on the former are, in effect, announcing that they don't care for their life in the permanent abode. They should blame no body but themselves for the total ruin in that world that Qur'an assures us awaits them. Those who only concentrate on the later are also showing lack of balance, for we need Allah's help to lead a good life here as well.
We should make dua not only for ourselves but also for our parents, brothers and sisters, spouses and children, relatives and friends, teachers and other benefactors, and destitute and struggling Muslims everywhere. We should pray for them for the good in this world as well as in the Hereafter. The Prophet
In the dark ages that we are living in today, everyday brings fresh news about atrocities committed against our brothers in Palestine, Kashmir, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Chechnya, Lebanon and the list goes on. And what do we do? We can continue to just feel frustrated and depressed. We can petition the determined perpetrators or a fictional "International Community". We can just forget all this and move on to some other subject. Or we can stand up before Allah and pray for His help, who alone can help. The dua can change our life, our outlook, and our fate. It is the most potent weapon. But it works only for those who try sincerely and seriously to use it.

Hadrat Numan bin Basheer Radi Allahu anhu narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, "Du'a is ibadat." Then He read this ayat. (Tirmidhi, Abu Dawod, and Ibn-e-Majah)
Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, "In the court of Allah, there is no greater thing than du'a" (Ibn-e-Majah)

Hadrat Abdullah bin Umar Radi Allahu anhu from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, "For whoever the door of du'a opened, for him the doors of mercy are opened. Whatever du'a is asked from Allah the best du'a is for well-being and safety among them." (Tirmidhi)

Hadrat Umar Radi Allahu anhu narrates that, "Whenever Rasool-Allah raised his hands for du'a He did not put down them down until HE took both hands over his face." (Tirmidhi)

Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, "Three du'a are such in which there is no doubt of their acceptance: 1) Father's du'a 2) Traveler's du'a 3) du'a of the oppressed". (Timidhi, Ibne Majah)
Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, "Three types of people's du'a are not rejected: 1) At the time of iftar the person who has fasted 2) Adil ruler's du'a 3) The du'a of the oppressed. Allah raises the du'a of the oppressed on the clouds and the doors of heaven are opened for it and Allah says, "Oath of MY Majesty and Honour! I will help and aid you. Even though if the help is after few days." (Tirmidhi)
Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, "When anyone of you does du'a then don't say "Oh Allah! Forgive me if you want", "Have mercy on me if you want", "Give me subsistence if you wish" rather believe completely that HE will do whatever HE wishes. Nobody can force HIM." (Bukhari)
Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, "Allah excepts the du'a of a person till the du'a is not related to sin or breaking of some relation and until he does not haste in that du'a. The people (May Allah be happy with them) asked, "Oh Rasool-Allah! What is meant by haste?" He replied, "That the person say "I did du'a again and again but my du'a wasn't accepted and afterwards he becomes hopeless and leaves the du'a. This is called haste." (Muslim)
Hadrat Jabir Radi Allahu anhu narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, "Don't do Bad-du'a [against] yourself, your wealth, or for your children. May it be the moment of acceptance in the court of Allah and your Bad-du'a be accepted. (Muslim)
Hadrat Boraidah Radi Allahu anhu narrates that Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, heard a man performing du'a like so, so He said, "He [the man] has performed du'a with the Ism-e-Azam and when Allah is asked through the Ism-e-Azam, Allah grants and when du'a is performed with it HE accepts it." (Tirmidhi and Abu Dawood)
Asma binte Yazeed Radi Allahu Anha narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, "Ism-e-Azam is in these two ayahs and in the beginning of Ale-Imran . " (Tirmidhi and Abu Dawood)
Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, "Saying is dearer to me than this world and all that is in it." (Mislim)
Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, "Whoever said hundred times in one day his sins are erased even if they are equal to the foam of the sea." (Muslim and Bukhari)
Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, "Every Prophet had a special du'a which is accepted in the court of Allah. All Prophets were in quick in their du'as. On the day of Judgment, for the intercession of my Ummah, I have saved my du'a. My du'a will reach to every person in my ummah, who did not make any partners with Allah. (Muslim)
Etiquette
The Etiquette of Du'a
The following etiquettes are narrated in the Hadith. For reasons of brevity, only the following summary and reference of each Hadith is mentioned instead of the entire Hadith.
To abstain from haraam food, clothing and earnings. (Muslim : Tirmidhi)
To make Du'a with sincerity. In other words, one should firmly believe that nobody but Allah Ta'ala will fulfill his objectives. (Hakim)
One should perform a good deed prior to making the Du'a & he should mention this during the course of the Du'a. For e.g. He should say, O Allah! I had performed so & so deed solely for Your pleasure. O Allah! accept my Du'a due to the barkat of that deed. (Muslim, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud).
To make Du'a whilst one is paak & clean. (Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, Nasai, Ibn Hibbaan, Mustadrak).
To make wudhu before the Du'a (All six major hadith collections)
To face the Qiblah (All six major hadith collections)
To sit as in the Tashahhud position (Abu Awanah)
To praise Allah Ta'ala at the beginning as well as at the end of Du'a (All six major hadith collections)
To convey Durood upon the Beloved Prophet Salla Allahu Ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam at the beginning as well as the end. (Abu Dawud, Musnad-e-Ahmad)
To spread out both the hands. (Tirmidhi, Mustadrak)
To raise both the hands up to the shoulders (Abu Dawud, Musnade-Ahmad)
To sit with humility and respect. (Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud)
To mention ones helplessness and dependence. (Tirmidhi)
To abstain from raising the eyes towards the sky whilst making Du'a (Muslim)
To mention the Asma al-Husnaa (the names of Allah Ta'ala ) and the sublime qualities Of Allah Ta'ala. (Ibn Hibbaan and Mustadrak)
To abstain from ceremonies rhyming of the Du'a phrases (Bukhari)
To abstain from saying the Du'a in a "sing-song" tone if the Du'a is in a poetic form (Hisn)
One should make Du'a through the medium of the Ambiyaa alayhimus-salaam and other Pious servants. (For e.g. He should say: 'O Allah! Accepts my Du'a through The good offices of these saintly people). (Bukhari, Bazzaar, Haakim)
To make the Du'a in a soft voice (All six major hadith collections on the authority if Abu Musa )
To utter the Du'a phrases transcribed from the Beloved Prophet Salla Allahu Ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam because Rasulullah didn't leave out a single need of the Deen nor of the dunya whilst teaching us how to make Du'a (Abu Dawud/Nasai)
To make a Du'a that encompasses most of the needs of Deen and the dunya. (Abu Dawud)
To make Du'a in favour of oneself first, thereafter ones parents and to include the other Muslims in the Du'a as well (Muslims)
If the Imam is making Du'a, he should not make Du'a for himself only but he should Include all the congregants in the Du'a (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)
Abu Dawud Radi Allahu anhu : Narrates that Rasulullah Salla Allahu Ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, said that
'' the Imam who makes Du'a for himself only, has betrayed the people." In other words, the Imam should not Make a Du'a that is restricted to him alone. For e.g. He should not say, "O Allah! cure my son." or "O Allah! Return my lost item." etc. but he should make a Du'a that includes all the congregation for e.g. He may say "O Allah! Forgive us and have mercy upon us."
To make Du'a with firm conviction (for e.g. he should not say: "O Allah! If you wish fulfil so and so task of mine." (All six major hadith collections)
To make Du'a with enthusiasm & yearning. (Ibn Hibbn & Abu Awana).
As far as possible endeavour to bring about a "presence of heart and mind" and cherish a high hope of the Du'a being accepted. (Haakim)
To make Du'a repeatedly. (Bukhari, Muslim)
This repetition should be at least thrice (Abu Dawud)
Note One may repeat the Du'a thrice in none sitting or he may repeat it on three different occasions. The "repetition of the Du'a" can be interpreted in both ways."
To make Du'a earnestly and insistently. (Nasai, Hakim, Abu awanah)
To abstain from making Du'a of severing family ties or other sins. (Muslim, Tirmidhi)
Avoid making Du'as of pre-determined and fixed things (for e.g. woman should not make a du'a of being transformed into a man or a tall person shouldn't make Du'a thus: "O Allah! Make me short ." etc) (Nasai).
Don't Make Du'a for impossible things. (Bukhari)
Don't make a Duaa in which you ask Allah Ta'ala to confine His Mercy to yourself Only (Bukhari, Abu Dawud, Nasai, Ibn Majah)
Ask only Allah Ta'ala alone for all your needs. Do not depend upon His creation. (Tirmidhi/Ibn Hibbaan)
The one making the Du'a as well as the person listening to it, both should say Aameen at the end. (Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Nasai)
Rub both hands over the face at the termination of the Du'a (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ibn Hibbaan, Majah, Hakim)
Don't be impatient over the acceptance of Du'as. In other words, don't say: "I've made Du'a repeatedly but to no avail." (Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Nasai, Ibn Majah)

The best times to pray Du'a
There are certain times du'a (supplication) is more likely to be accepted by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala as mentioned by the Most Beloved to Allah Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam. These times are as follows:
The Last Third Of The Night
Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu narrated that Allah’s Messenger Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'In the last third of every night our Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer) (Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala) descends to the lowermost heaven and says; "Who is calling Me, so that I may answer him? Who is asking Me so that may I grant him? Who is seeking forgiveness from Me so that I may forgive him?."' [Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith Qudsi]
Hadrat Amr ibn Absah narrated that the Most Beloved Prophet Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'The closest any worshipper can be to His Lord is during the last part of the night, so if you can be amongst those who remember Allah at that time, then do so.'[at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa'i, al-Hakim - Sahih]
Late at night
When people are sleeping and busy with worldly pleasures Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala gives the believers an opportunity, or an answer hour if they can fight sleep and invoke Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala for whatever they need. The Prophet Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'There is at night an hour, no Muslim happens to be asking Allah any matter of this world or the Hereafter, except that he will be given it, and this (occurs) every night.' [Muslim #757]
Between Adhan and Iqamah
Hadrat Anas Radi Allahu anhu narrated that Allah’s Beloved Messenger Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'A supplication made between the Adhan and Iqama is not rejected.'
[Ahmad, abu Dawud #521, at-Tirmidhi #212, Sahih al-Jami #3408, an-Nasai and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (sound)]
An Hour On Friday
Narrated Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu : Allah’s Messenger Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam talked about Friday and said: 'There is an hour on Friday and if a Muslim gets it while offering Salat (prayer) and asks something from Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala, then Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala will definitely meet his demand.' And he (the Prophet Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam pointed out the shortness of that particular time with his hands.[Sahih al-Bukhari]
Some have said that this hour is from the time the Imam (prayer’s leader) enters the mosque on Friday’s prayer until the prayer is over (ie between the two khutbahs), whereas others have said that it is the last hour of the day (ie after the Asr prayer until the Maghrib prayer).
While Drinking Zam zam Water
Hadrat Jaber Radi Allahu anhu narrated that Allah’s Messenger Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'Zamzam water is for what it is drunk for.' [Ahmad 3: 357 and Ibn Majah #3062]. This means that when you drink Zamzam water you may ask Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala for anything you like to gain or benefit from this water such as healing from illness.... etc.
While Prostrating
Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu narrated that Allah’s Messenger Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam, said: 'The nearest a slave can be to his Lord is when he is prostrating, so invoke (supplicate) Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala much in it. [Muslim, abu Dawud, an-Nasa'i and others, Sahih al-Jami #1175]
When a Muslim is in his Salat (prayer) he is facing Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala and when he prostrates he is the nearest he can be to Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala so it is best to invoke Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala at this time. It is said that while in prostration, one should not ask for worldy needs (ie a nice car, a new job, etc), but for the Hereafter.
When Waking Up at Night
Narrated Ubada Bin As-Samit that Allah’s Messenger Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'Whomever wakes up at night and says La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la shrika lahu lahulmulku, wa lahul hamdu, wa huwa ala kulli shai'in qadir. Alhamdu lillahi, wa subhanallahi wa la ilaha illallahu, wallah akbir, wa la hawla wala quwata illa billah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala He is the only one who has no partners. His is the kingdom and all the praises are for Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala All the glories are for Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala And none has the right to be worshipped but Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala and Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala is the most Great and there is neither might nor power except with Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala and then says, Allahumma ighfir li (O Allah! Forgive me) or invokes Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala, he will be responded to and if he makes ablution and performs Salat (prayer), his Salat (prayer) will be accepted. [Sahih al-Bukhari]
At The End Of The Obligatory Salat:
Narrated Abu Omamah Radi Allahu anhu : that Allah’s Beloved Messenger Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam was asked, O Messenger of Allah, which supplication is heard (by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala, he said the end of the night and at the end of the obligatory Salat (prayer) [at-Tirmidhi]. This time is after saying 'At-tahyat' , and before making Tasleem (finishing prayer).
The Night Of 'Qadr' (Decree)
This night is the greatest night of the year. This is the night which the almighty Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala said about it, "The night of Al-Qadar (Decree) is better than a thousand months." [Surah al-Qadr, 97: 3]
The Night of Decree is one of the odd nights of the last ten nights of the blessed month of Ramadan. The angels descend down to the earth, and the earth is overwhelmed with peace and serenity until the break of dawn and when he doors of Paradise are opened, the worshipper is encouraged to turn to Allah to ask for his needs for this world and the Hereafter.
During The Rain
Narrated Sahel Ibn Sa'ad Radi Allahu anhu: that the Most Beloved Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'Two will not be rejected, Supplication when the Adhan (call of prayer) is being called, and at the time of the rain'. [Al-Hakim 2: 114, and Abu Dawud #2540, ibn Majah]
'Seek the response to your du'as when the armies meet, and the prayer is called, and when rain falls' [reported by Imam al-Shafi' in al-Umm, al-Sahihah #1469]. The time of the rain is a time of mercy from Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala so, one should take advantage of this time when Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala is having mercy on His slaves.
At the Adhan
'Seek the response to your du'as when the armies meet, and the prayer is called, and when rain falls' [reported by Imam al-Shafi' in al-Umm, al-Sahihah #1469]
In another hadith; 'When the prayer is called, the doors of the skies are opened, and the du'a is answered' [al-Tayalisi in his Musnad #2106, al-Sahihah #1413]
The One Who Is Suffering Injustice and Opression
The Beloved Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said to Mua'ad Ibn Jabal (RA), 'Beware of the supplication of the unjustly treated, because there is no shelter or veil between it (the supplication of the one who is suffering injustice) and Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala' [Sahih Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
The Beloved Messenger Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam declared, 'Three men whose du'a is never rejected (by Allah) are: the fasting person until he breaks his fast (in another narration, when he breaks fast), the just ruler and the one who is oppressed.'[Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi - Hasan]
In another hadith; The Beloved Messenger Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam declared: 'Three du'as are surely answered: The du'a of the oppressed, the du'a of the traveler, and the du'a of the father/mother (upon their child)'. The One who is suffering injustice is heard by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala when he invokes Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala to retain his rights from the unjust one or oppressor. Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala has sworn to help the one who is suffering from injustice sooner or later as the Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said.
The Traveller
The Most Beloved of Allah Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said; Three supplications will not be rejected (by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the one who is fasting, and the supplication of the traveler. [al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi - Sahih]
During travel supplication is heard by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala if the trip is for a good reason, but if the trip is for a bad intention or to perform illegal things (making sins) this will not apply to it.
The Parent's Supplication for their Child
The Beloved Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said; Three supplications will not be rejected (by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the one who is fasting, and the supplication of the traveler. [al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi - Sahih]
Du'a after praising Allah and giving salat on the Beloved Prophet Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam in the tashahhud at the end of salat.
Narrated Faddalah ibn Ubayd Radi Allahu anhu: that the Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'When anyone of you makes du'a, let him start by glorifying his Lord and praising Him, then let him send blessings upon the Prophet Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam, then let him pray for whatever he wants' [abu Dawud #1481, at-Tirmidhi #3477]
In another hadith; Baqiy ibn Mukhallid Radi Allahu anhu narrated that that the Beloved Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'Every du'a is not responded to until one sends blessings upon the Prophet Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam' [al-Bayhaqi]
In another hadith; Hadrat Umar Radi Allahu ta'ala anhu narrated that the Most Beloved Prophet Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'Du'a is detained between the heavens and the earth and no part of it is taken up until you send blessings upon your Beloved Prophet Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam' [at-Tirmidhi #486]

from Khushu' fis-salah
Ibrahim ibn Adham - may Allah have mercy on him - a third century scholar, a teacher and a companion of Sufyan ath-Thawri, was asked about the saying of Allah - the Most High:
[al Qur'an 40:60]
"We supplicate and we are not answered."
So he said to them:
You know Allah, Yet you do not obey Him,
You recite the Qur'an, Yet do not act according to it,
You know Shaitan, Yet you have agreed with him,
You proclaim that you love Muhammad 
Yet you abandon his Sunnah,
You proclaim your love for Paradise, Yet you do not act to gain it,
You proclaim your fear the Fire, Yet you do not prevent yourselves from sins,
You say "Indeed death is true", Yet you have not prepared for it,
You point out the faults with others, Yet you do not look at your faults,
You eat of that which Allah has provided for you, Yet you do not thank Him,
You bury your dead, Yet you do not take a lesson from it."
Complete Du'a for Wudhu
At the beginning of the Wudhu pray the following Du'a :

Allah humma inni au Zubika min hamazatish shayateen wa aoozubika raabe anyyahdhuroon
'' O Allah! Verily, I seek refuge in Thee from the evil suggestions of the devil, and I seek refuge in Thee, lest they should come to me ''

Alla hummagh firlee zambee wa wasse lee fee dari wa barik lee fee rizqi
'' O Allah! Grant me forgiveness for my sins, grant me expansion in my house and bless my livelihood ''
At the time of washing Hands pray :
Allah humma inni asalukal yumna wal barakata wa aoozubika minash shoomi wal halakati
'' O Allah! I ask of Thee good fortune and blessing, and seek refuge in Thee from misfortune and destruction ''
At the time of Gargling :
Allah Humma aa inni ala tilawati kitabeka wa kasratiz zikri laka wash shukri laka
'' O Allah ! Help me in the recitation of Thy Book, and in remembering Thee most, and in offering Thee thanks ''
At the time of pouring water in Nostrils :
Allah humma arihni ra-ehatal jannati wa anta anni radhin
'' O Allah ! Comfort me with the smells of Heaven, and under the circumstances that Thou art pleased with me ''
While Snuffing your Nose :
Allah humma aoozubika min rawaa-ihin nari wamin soo-iddari
'' O Allah! I seek refuge in Thee from the smell of the fire (of hell) and from the disgrace of the abode ''
While washing the Face :
Allah humma bayyidh waj hi yauma tabyadh-dhu wu juhu auliaika wala tusawwid wajhi yauma taswaddu wu juho aadaaika
'' O Allah! Brighten my face on the day when Thou wouldst brighten the faces of those who are dear to Thee, and do not blacken my face on the day when Thou wouldst blacken the faces of thy foes ''
While washing Right hand to the Elbow :
Allah humma aatini kitabi bi yamini wa hasibni hisabanyyaseera
'' O Allah! Give me the record of my deeds in my right hand and subject me to an easy judgment ''
While washing the Left Hand to the Elbow :
Allah humma inni aoozobika an tutiyayani kitabi bi shamli aumin wara-I Zahari
'' O Allah! I seek refuge in Thee that I may be given the record of my deeds in my left hand or from behind my back ''
While wiping Head :
Allah humma azillini tahta zilli arshika yauma la zilla illa zilla arshika
'' O Allah! give me the shade of shelter under Thy Throne, on the day when there will be no shade other than the shade of Thy throne ''
While wiping the Ears :
Allah hummaj alni minai lazeena yas tami-u-nal qaula fa yattabi-ona ahsanahu,
Allah humma asmini munadiyal jannati ma al abrar
'' O Allah! make me as one of those who listen to an utterance and follow what is best in it.
O Allah! make me listen to the pronouncement of the Heaven with the virtuous people ''
While wiping Neck :
Allah humma fukka raqabati minan nari wa aoozobika minas salasili wal aghla le
'' O' Allah! take my neck off from the hell-fire and I seek Thy refuge from the fetters and shackles ''
While washing Right Foot :
Allah humma sabbit qadamayya ala siratikal mustaeem
'' O Allah! let my feet stick to the right path ''
While washing left Foot :
Allah humma inni aoozobika an tazilla qadamayya alas sirati yauma tazillu aqadamul munafiqeena finnar
'' O' Allah! I seek Thy refuge that my feet slip on the bridge on the day when the feet of the hypocrites slip in Hell ''
At the end of Wudhu :
Ash-hadu an la ilaha ilal lahu wahdahu la sharika lahu wa ash hadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa Rasooluhu Allah hummaj alni minat tawwabeena wajalni minal mutatahhireena waj alni min ibadikas sualiheen
'' I testify that there is no God besides Allah, He is alone, He has no partner, and I (further) testify that Muhammad (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) is indeed His Bondsman and Apostle. O' Allah make me of those who are repentant and make me of those who are purified and make me of those who are Thy virtuous servants ''
Salat : Adhaan
Salaat Related Du'as : Upon hearing the Adhaan
Alla humma rabba hazihid dawatit taammati was salatil qa-imate ati muhammada nil wasilata wal fadheelata wad darajatar rafiata wab as-ho maqamam mahmooda nil lazi wa attahu war zuqna shafaatahu yaumal qiyamati innaka la tukhliful meeyad
O' Allah! Lord of this perfect call and of the salat to be offered presently, vouchsafe Muhammad's way of approach unto Thee, and also eminence, and elevate him to the glorious position which Thou hast promised him, and afford us his intercession on the Day of Judgement and Thou goest not back on Thy promise.
Entering/Stepping out of the Mosque
Whilst entering the Mosque : One should plant one's right foot forward, and then the left, and along with Darood Shareef offer the following prayer :
Allah hummaf tahli abwaaba rahmatika
O' Allah ! Open unto me the gates of Thy Mercy
Whilst stepping out of the Mosque : along with Darood Shareef offer the following prayer :
Allah humma inni asaluka min fadhlika
O' Allah ! I beg of Thee Thy Bounty
After morning & evening prayers
The following supplication should be made after morning & evening prayers :
Allah humma ajirni minan nari
O' Allah ! Protect me against the fire (of Hell)
Du'a Qunoot
Du'a-e-Qunoot to be prayed in the third rakat (cycle) of the Witr Salaah :
Allahumma inna nasta-inuka wa nas-taghfiruka wa nu'minu bika wa nuthni alaykal khayr, wa nashkuruka wala nakfuruka wanakhla'u wa nat-ruku may yafjuruk, Allahumma'iyyaka na'budu wa laka nusalli wa nasjudu wa ilayka nas-'a wa nahfidu wa naksha 'adhabaka wa narju rahmataka inna 'adhabak al-jidda bil-kuffari mul-hiq
O' Allah ! I seek help from You, ask forgiveness from You, and believe in You and praise You for all the good things and are grateful to You and we part and break off with all those who disobedient to You. O Allah, You alone do we worship and pray exclusively to You and bow before You alone and we hasten eagerly towards You and fear Your severe punishment and hope for Your mercy, for Your severe punishment is surely to be meted out to the disbelievers.
After Witr prayers
After Witr prayers one should recite the following words : 3 times
Subhanal Malikil Quddus
Glory be to the King, the Holy
One should also recite : 33 times
Subhan Allah
Glory be to Allah
Together with : 33 times

After Friday prayer
It is a recommended meritious act to recite the following supplication after Jum'ah [Friday] Prayer:
Allahumma ya ganeeyo ya hameedo ya moobeedo, ya moeedo ya raheemo, ya wadoodo, ya agninyo, bihalalikaa an hara mikaa wa bifazlikaa aman siwaa'kaa
It is reported that one who recites this supplication without fail will attain deliverence from the act of looking for the things that are at the disposal of one's fellow human beings. Allah will proceed sustenance from them from the corners never imagined.
Du'as after salaah
Some Du'as after every fard Salaah :
Astaghfirullah (3 times),
-- Allahumma antas-Salaamu, wa minkas-Salaamu, tabarakta ya Dhal Jalaali wal-Ikram
Allahumma Rabbana Taqabbal minna innaka antas-samiul Aleem,
wa tub alaina innaka antat-Tawabur Raheem
Rabbanagh fir-lana zunoobana wa tawaffana ma-al Akbar
Rabbana, Aatina fiddunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina azaban-nar
Rabbana zalamna anfusana wa illam tagfir lana wa tarhamna lanakunanna minal-khasireen
Wa sallallaho ala khairi khalqihi wa noor-e-arshihi Muhammadin wa alaa, Aalihi wa ashabihi ajameen, Birahmatika ya arhamar- Rahimeen.
I seek the Forgiveness of Allah (3 times),
O Allah! You are Peace and from You comes peace. Blessed are You, O Owner of majesty and Honour
O Allah! the Pardoner! Grant us the intercession of the Prophet [Salla Allahu alayhi wa Sallam]
"Our Lord ! Accept (this service) from us: for Thou art the All-Hearing, The All Knowing.
"Our Lord ! Accept (this service) from us: for Thou art the All -Hearing, The All Knowing.
And turn unto us (in Mercy); for Thou art the Most Merciful.
"Our Lord ! Forgive us our sins and take to Thyself our souls in the company of the righteous.
"Our Lord ! Give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter.
And save us from the torment of the Fire!"
"Our Lord ! We have wronged our own souls:
If Thou forgive us not and bestow not upon us Thy Mercy, we shall certainly be lost.
Call of Evening Prayer
Dua to be recited at the call of evening prayer :
Allahumma inna haaza iqbalo laileka wa idbaru nahareka wa aswaatu duaatika faghfirlee
O' Allah ! This is the hour of the advent of Thy night, and the departure of Thy day, and the sounds of Thy heralds, so grant me forgiveness
Du'a before the end of Salaah
Du'a to pray after Durood-e-Ibrahim, beofre the end of the salaah :
Rabbij alni muqeemas-salaate wa min zurriyati rabbana wataqabbal du'a
My Lord, make me keep up prayer and also my offspring, O Our Lord! and accept my prayer
Tahajjud
Du'a to pray at Tahajjud :
Allahumma lakal hamdu anta qayyimus samawati wal ardhe wa man fee hinna wa lakal Hamdu anta noorus samawati wal ardhi wa man fee hinna wa lakal hamdu anta malikus samawati wal ardhi wa man fee hinna antal haqqo wa wa-aduka haqqun wa liqa-oka haqqun wa Qauluku haqqun wal jannatu haqqun wan naru haqqun wan nabiyoona haqqun wa muhammadun haqqun was saatu haqqun allahumma laka aslamtu wa bika aamantu wa alaika tawakkaltu wa ilaikaanabtu wa bika khasamtu wa ilaika hakamtu faghfirli ma qaddamtu wa ma akhkhartu wa ma asrartu wa ma aalantu wa ma anta aalamu bihi minni antal muqaddimo wa antal muakhkheru la ilaha illa anta wa la ilaha ghairuka
Istikhara
Concerning the ritual prayer for guidance in choosing the best option [Salat al-Istikhara], and the prayer of supplication [du'a] appropiate to it.
According to a traditional report transmitted on the authority of Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, it was Jabir ibn 'Abdi'llah (may Allah be well pleased with him and with his father) who said:
"Allah's Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to teach us how to seek guidance in choosing the best option available in a practical enterprise [al-istikhara fi 'l-amr], just as he would sometimes teach us a Chapter [Sura] from the Qur'an. :
"'If one of you is concerned about some practical undertaking, or about making plans for a journey, he should perform two cycles of ritual prayer [rak'atain], not as an obligatory observance [farida], but voluntarily. Then he should say:
'"O Allah, I ask You to show me what is best, through Your knowledge, and I ask You to empower me, through Your power, and I beg You to grant me Your tremendous favor, for You have power, while I am without power, and You have knowledge, while I am without knowledge, and You are the One who knows all things invisible.
Allahumma inni astakhiru-ka bi-'ilmi-ka wa astaqdiru-ka bi-qudrati-ka wa as'alu-ka min fadli-ka 'l-'azim fa-inna-ka taqdiru wa la aqdiru wa ta'lamu wa la a'lamu wa Anta 'Allamu 'l-ghuyub :
O Allah, if You know that this undertaking is in the best interests of my religion, my life in this world, and my life in the Hereafter, and can yield successful results in both the short term and the long term, then make it possible for me and make it easy for me, and then bless me in it.
Allahumma in kunta ta'lamu anna hadha 'l-amra khairun li fi dini wa dunyaya wa akhirati wa 'aqibati amri wa 'ajili-hi wa ajili-h :fa-'qdir-hu li wa yassir-hu li thumma barik li fi-h :
If not, then turn it away from me, and make it easy for me to do well, wherever I may happen to be, and make me content with Your verdict, O Most Merciful of the merciful.'"
wa illa fa-'srif-hu 'an-ni wa yassir liya 'l-khaira haithu kana ma kuntu wa raddi-ni bi-qada'i-ka ya Arhama 'r-rahimin :

New Moon
Du'a to recite upon sighting the New Moon :
Allahumma ahillahu alaina bil yumni wal eimane was-salaamati wal islame wattaufeeqe lema tuhhibu wa tardha rabbi wa rabbukal lahu
O' Allah ! Let this new moon appear unto us with good luck and prosperity, with faith, with safety and with Islam and with hope of success to do deeds which my Lord and your (moon's) Lord like's & approves

I seek refuge in Allah from the evil of this darkness
Sehri -Intention
Niyyat : Intention for fasting [Sehri] :-
The time for the intention (Niyyat) for fasting begins anytime after sunset until midday. Intention is obligatory and it is Sunnat to recite it verbally each day. Even if the intention is made before midday the fast will be valid. Recite Durood Shareef before and after making the intention.
" I have made the intention of obligatory fast for this day of Ramadan for the sole pleasure of Allah Almighty."
Wa-be Sawme Ghadin Nu-Wei Tu Min Shah re-Ramadan
'I have intended the fast of the month of Ramadan for tomorrow'
Iftaar : Intention
Niyyat : Intention for breaking fasting [Iftaar] :-
To make haste in breaking the fast is Sunnat and a means of obtaining blessing from Allah Almighty. One should break ones fast when one thinks the sun has set. However, one must not be too hasty on an overcast day. Iftaar should be made before performing Maghrib Salah.
Iftaar should be made with dates and if this is not available, with water. After Iftaar one should not waste unnecessary time eating and delay the Maghrib Salah. Men should not miss the Jama'at (congregation) because of eating.
Du'a for ending the Fast :
At the time of Iftaar read the following du'a :
Allah Humma inni Laka Soom-Tu wah Bikka aa-Mantu wa-Ilayka Tawak' Kalto,
Wah Ala Rizke-Ka Af-Tar-tu Fahtaqab al-Minnee
"Oh Allah I have fasted for You, believed in You, relied on You, and with your sustenance i break it. Therefore forgive me my past and future sins."

Tarawee Ramadan night prayers :
After every four rakaats (cycles) during tarawee it is mustahab (desirable) to sit for a duration to recite this tasbeeh (du'a) :
" Subhaana Dhil-Mulke w'al-Ma'lakoot, Subhaana Dhil-izate w'al-Azamate w'al-Haybate w'al-Qudrate w'al-Kibriyaa-ai w'al-Jaba'root, Subhaa'nal ma-li-kil Hayyil'Ladhi La'Yanaa-mu Wa'la yamootu Subbu Hun Quddu-sun Rab'onaa wa-Rabbul ma-'Laa'-i-kati War'ruh, Alla-Humma A'Jirnaa Mi'Nan'naar, Yaa Mujeero Ya Mujeero Ya Mujeer "
" All Glory and Perfection belong to Allah and free is He (from all defects), the Sovereign of the Seen and the Unseen Kingdom. All Glory and Perfection is due to Allah and free is the Lord's Might, Greatness, Reverence, Power, Majesty and Omnipotence from all defects. All Glory and Perfection belong to Him and Free is He the Sovereign who does not sleep neither die from all defects. He is verily the all Gracious and the most Holy, the all perfect, the Lord of the Spirit and Angels. "
If one is unable to recite the above then he should glorify Allah Almighty, recite Durood Shareef and offer any du'a.

" Here I am at Thy service O Lord, here I am. Here I am at Thy service, and Thou hast no partners. Thine alone is All Praise and All Bounty, and Thine alone is The Sovereignty. Thou hast no partners. "
O Allah! Thou knowest that which I keep secret and that which I disclose. Grant me Thy pardon. Thou knowest my needs; grant me my wishes. Thou knowest that which is in my breast; forgive me my sins. O Allah! I seek from Thee a faith that will saturate my heart, and a true conviction that will make me realize that naught can befall me except what Thou hast decreed for me, and that I may find contentment in whatever Thou hast given me. Thou art my patron in this world and the Hereafter. Allow me to die in a state of Islam and to be counted among the righteous. O Allah! on this occasion of our presence in this place, let not any of our sins go unforgiven, nor any of our worries undispelled, nor any of our needs unfulfilled or unfacilitated by Thee. And let all our tasks be made easy, and our minds relieved, and our hearts illuminated and our actions judged as pious. O Allah! allow us to die as Muslims and to join the ranks of the virtuous without any distress. Amen, O Lord of the Universe.
O Allah! Lord of this Ancient House, free our necks and the necks of our fathers and mothers and brothers and children from the fires of Hell. O Thou who art Master of Beneficence, Benignity, Grace, Bounty, Munificence and Benevolence! O Allah! let the final result of all our affairs be good, and protect us from degradation in this world and eternal doom in the Hereafter. O Allah! truly I am Thy slave and the son of Thy slave, standing beneath Thy door and holding to Thy threshold in humility before Thee. I hope for Thy Mercy and I fear Thy punishment in Hell. O The Eternally Beneficent! O Allah! I ask Thee to accept my remembrance of Thee, and relieve me of my burdens, and set right my affairs, and purify my heart, and illuminate my grave for me and forgive me my sins. And I beseech of Thee high ranks in Paradise. Amin.
(d) Prayers of Tawaf
The prayers usually recited during Tawaf of the Kabah are given below:
(i) First Shawt (i.e., Circuit)
All Glory is to Allah! All Praise is to Allah! There is none worthy of worship but Allah! Allah is the Greatest. There is no power, nor strength except that from Allah, The Most High, The Greatest! Blessings and Peace be upon the Beloved Prophet of Allah, Muhammad (pbuh). O Allah! By my faith in Thee, and by my belief in Thy Book, and in fulfillment of the vows I made to Thee, and following the Sunnah of Thy Beloved Prophet, Muhammad (pbuh), (I perform the Tawaf of the Holy Kabah). O Allah! truly I ask Thy forgiveness, and Thy protection, and everlasting soundness in faith in this world and in the Hereafter , and that I be granted Paradise and be freed from the fires of Hell.
Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the chastisement of fire, and allow us to enter Paradise with the righteous ones. O Glorious One! O All Forgiving! O Lord of the Universe!
(11) Second Shawt (i.e., Circuit)
O Allah! This House is Thy House, and this Sanctuary is Thy Sanctuary, and this Security is Thy Security, and this slave is Thy slave. I am Thy slave and the son of Thy slave. And this place is a refuge from the fires of Hell for him who seeks Thy protection. Forbid our flesh and our bodies to the Fire. O Allah! Endear to us the Faith, and adorn with it our hearts, and make hateful to us disbelief, wickedness and transgression, and cause us to be among those who are rightly guided.
O Allah! Protect me from Thy punishment on the Day when thou shalt resurrect Thy slaves. O Allah! Allow me to enter Paradise without any accounting.
Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the chastisement of fire, and allow us to enter Paradise with the righteous ones. O Glorious One! O All Forgiving! O Lord of the Universe!
(iii) Third Shawt (i.e., Circuit)
O Allah! Truly, I seek refuge in Thee from doubt and from associating with Thee others (in worship), and from discord, hypocrisy, and immorality, and from returning home to see my family and my children in an evil state of affairs. O Allah! Truly I ask Thee for Thy pleasure and that I be allowed to enter Paradise. And I take refuge in Thee from Thy anger and from the fire of Hell. O Allah! I seek refuge in Thee from falling from your grace in my grave and from the temptations in this life and trials at the time of death.
Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the chastisement of fire, and allow us to enter Paradise with the righteous ones. O Glorious One! O All Forgiving! O Lord of the Universe!
(iv) Fourth Shawt (i.e., Circuit)
O Allah! Allow this pilgrimage to be accepted, and this endeavor to be rewarded, and my sins to be forgiven , and my good deeds to be approved and cause my business to flourish; O Thou, who knoweth all that is in our hearts! O Allah! Take me out of darkness into light. O Allah! I ask thee, that I be worthy of Thy Mercy, and certain of Thy Forgiveness, and immune to all sins, and be worthy of rewards for all my virtues, and be worthy of entering Paradise and be immune from Hell. O My lord! Make me content with what Thou hast bestowed upon me. And let Thy Blessings be with what Thou hast given me. And compensate all that I lack with Thy own favor.
Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the chastisement of fire, and allow us to enter Paradise with the righteous ones. O Glorious One! O All Forgiving! O Lord of the Universe!
(v) Fifth Shawt (i.e., Circuit)
O Allah! Bestow upon me the shade of Thy Throne on the Day when there shall be no shade except Thine, and there shall be no countenance except Thine. And allow me a drink from the cistern of Thy Beloved Prophet, Hadrat Muhammad (pbuh)- a drink so pleasant that it may quench my thirst for ever. O Allah! I ask Thee the best of that which Thy Beloved Prophet, our Master Muhammad (pbuh) has asked of Thee. And I seek refuge in Thee from the evils from which Thy Beloved Prophet, our Master, Muhammad (pbuh) has sought refuge in Thee. O Allah! Truly I beseech Thee to grant me Paradise and its delights and whatever may bring me nearer to it whether by word, or by act, or by deed. And I seek refuge in Thee from the fires of Hell and whatever may bring me nearer to it whether by word, or by act or by deed.
Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the chastisement of fire, and allow us to enter Paradise with the righteous ones. O Glorious One! O All Forgiving! O Lord of the Universe!
(vi) Sixth Shawt (i.e., Circuit)
O Allah! Thou hast many claims on me in my relations to Thee, and many claims in my relations to Thy creatures. O Allah! release me of those which I owe to Thee, and give me the strength to bear those which I owe to Thy creatures. Make me content with what Thou hast made lawful and enable me to reject what Thou hast declared forbidden. And make me content with obedience to Thee, and let me beware of Thy disobedience. And make me content with Thy favor so that I may not seek favor from any one else, O Thou, whose Mercy is All Embracing. O Allah! Truly Thy house is Glorious and Thy Countenance Benign, and Thou, O Allah! art Clement, Noble and Great. Thou lovest forgiveness, so forgive me.
Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the chastisement of fire, and allow us to enter Paradise with the righteous ones. O Glorious One! O All Forgiving! O Lord of the Universe!
(vii) Seventh Shawt (i.e., Circuit)
O Allah! I seek from Thee a faith that is perfect, a conviction that is true, a heart that is full of devotion towards Thee, and a tongue that is forever engaged in Thy remembrance; and provisions that are vast, lawful and clean, and a repentance that is sincere; a repentance before death, peace at the time of death and Thy Benign Forgiveness and Mercy after death, and Thy Pardon at the time of reckoning, and the reward of Paradise and a reprieve from the fires of Hell. Accept my prayers O The Mighty One! O The Forgiver! O My Lord! Increase me in my knowledge and may I be counted among the righteous.
Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the chastisement of fire, and allow us to enter Paradise with the righteous ones. O Glorious One! O All Forgiving! O Lord of the Universe!
Rajab
There is a big reward for sadaqa and charity in the month of Rajab. Those who cannot fast may give sadaqa to the poor every day, or recite:
'Subhana Ilalahil Jaleele Subhana Man la Yanbaghil Tasbeeho Illa Lahoo;
Subhanal A'azzinil Akrame; Subhana Man Labisal Izza wa Howa Lahoo Ahlun.'
Repeating 'Laa ilaaha illa-Allah' 1000 times.
Repeating 'Astaghfirullaaha zul jalale wal Ikraam min jamee' al zonoobe wal aathaam' 1000 times.
Repeating Sura Al Tawheed 'Qul-ho-wallahu Ahad' 1000 times to get the reward of 1000 Angels and blessings on the reciter, his / her children, family and neighbours.
It is recommended to recite 'Qul-ho-wallahu Ahad' 100 times every Friday in the month of Rajab.
May Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) grant you more blessings in this month and every month to do more for the real future in the Akhirah.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim
Allahumma yaa Dhal Manni wa Laa yumannu 'alaih, Yaa Dhal Jalaali wal Ikraam.
Yaa Dhut Tawli wal in'aam.
Laa ilaahi illaa anta Dhahrul laajeena wal jaarul Mustajeereen.
Wa amaanul Khaa-e-feen.
Allahumma in kunta katabtanee 'indaka fee Ummil Kitaabi shaqiyyan aw mahrooman aw matroodan aw muqattaran 'alayya fir rizqi famh.
Allahumma bifadhlika shaqawatee wa hirmanee wa tardee waqtitaara rizqee wathbitnee 'indaka fee Ummil Kitaabi sa'eedam marzooqam muwaffaqan lil khayraat.
Fa innaka qulta wah qawlukal haqqu fee kitaabikal munazzali 'alaa lisaani Nabiyyikal Mursal.
Yamhullahu ma yashaa-u wayuthbitu wa 'indahu Ummul Kitab.
Ilaahi bit Tajallil 'Atham, fee laylatin Nisfi min Shahri Sha'baanal Mukarram Allatee yufraqu fihaa kulli Amrin Hakeemiw wa yubram.
Antakshifa 'annaa minal bala-e maa na'lamu wa la na'lam.
Wa anta bihee 'alam.
Inaka antal A'azul Akram .
Wa Sall Allahu ta 'alaa 'Alaa Sayyidinaa Muhammadiw Wa 'alaa Alihi wa Sahbihi wa Sallam.
Wal Hamdulillahi Rabbil 'Aalameen.
The transliteration should not be thought of as a suitable substitute for the original Arabic.
Stress & anxiety
There are many du’as, and surahs that can be read to help you when feeling stressful and in anxiety. Some of the recommended ones are:
‘Laa hawla wa laa kuwwata illaa billaahil ‘aliyyil ‘azim’
Or you can pray :
‘subhaanal laahi wa bihamdi hi subhaanal lahil ‘azim wa bihamdihi astaghfirullah’ or ... ‘laa ilaaha illa anta subhaanaka inni kuntu minaz zaalimin’
All the above are proven to have benefits from various ahadith. I suggest you recite any of the above dua's at times of need until the fear or anxiety has been erased.
Additionally in 'Hisn-e-hasin' the following dua has been related when one is feeling stressful:
‘allahumma rahmataka arju falaa takilni ilaa nafsi tarfata ‘ayniw wa aslih li sha’ni kullahu laa ilaaha illaa anta’
Confused
This supplication (du'a'), is mostly read when you do not know what to do, or are confused, or depressed.
'Ya hayyu ya qayyumu bi rahmati ka astaghith'
'Oh living One, Oh One who is always present, I am in anticipation of your Mercy.'
Always remember, never to give up your five times salaah, and make a promise to yourself, that you will always offer this to Allah the Almighty, in thanks.
Losing temper/feeling down [2]
When one is feeling down, or loses their temper, one should suddenly recite the 'Darood Shareef'. There are numerous 'Darood Shareefs' that can be learned and recited, for example:
This is a common 'Darood Shareef', which almost everyone knows, and may be read in any state.
At the time of anger pray the following Du'a :
Aoozubillahe minash-shaitanir rajeem
I take refuge in Allah from the Satan outcast
Evil thoughts
For the Expiation of Sins (of the tongue) committed in an assembly :
Subhanal-lahe wa be hamdehi subhana kalla humma wa be hamdika ash-hadu anal ilaha illa anta astagfiruka wa atoobu ilaika
Glory be to Allah and praise unto Him. Thy Glory I extol, O Allah! And Thy praise I hymn. I testify that there is no god save Thee. I seek Thy forgiveness and unto Thee do I turn penitent
When Evil thoughts come to mind, pray the following :
Aoozubillahe minash-shaitane amantu billahi wa Rasoolehi
I take refuge with Allah from the Satan. I repose my faith in Allah and His Apostles.

Du'a for when in fear
When in fear, recite:
‘allaahumma innaa naj’aluka fi nuhurihim wa na’udhu bika min shururihim’
Mishqaat Shareef proves the excellence of this du’a:
‘Yaa hayyu yaa qayyumu bi rahmatika astaghith’
Scared child
Du'a for when a child is scared. Simply recite.
He should recite as many times as possible during the day, but it isn't limited to just small children. It has many advantages, and benefits, which are good for this world, and the Hereafter, especially if it has come from the ennobled mouth, of the Most Beloved Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam).
It would also help if the child learnt the kalimah shareef and started practising his salaah with the adults of the home.
Heart/Chest Problems
For the heart:
'Ya Allaho Ya Rahmano Ya Rahimo dil mara kun mustaqim bi haqqi iyyaka na'budu wa iyyaka nasta'in'.
By reciting 'Darood Shareef' eleven times, before and after this du'a, and by stroking the chest afterwards, will give you relief from all chesty/hearty problems insha'Allah.
Diabetes:
When you are suffering from diabetes:
''innahu 'alaa raj'ihi la Qadir'
By reciting this du'a at a fixed time everyday, but before you do, to recite the 'Darood Shareef' eleven times at the beginning, and then to recite the above verse once, and the Surah called 'wal 'aadiyaati dabhann'. Insha'Allah, all your problems for diabetes shall be rid of.
To ease pain
One may recite this du'a, to ease and free one from any pain that he/she maybe suffering :
Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja-althau sahlan wa anta taja-lul hazna sahlan iza shaita
O Allah ! There is nothing easy except what thou so maketh and Thou maketh the difficult easy, whatsoever Thou liketh
Or you can pray the following :
'Alhamdo lillahi aafaani mimab talaak allahu bi hi wa faddalani 'alaa kathirim mimman khalaqa tafdhila'
Whoever recites this du'a with conviction whenever they see a person with a disease, then Allah the Almighty shall preserve him from such a disease, Insha'Allah.
Hardship/Difficulty
If you ever see someone who is in hardship/difficulty/illness, : Then the following du'a can be recited:
'Alhamdu lillahil ladhi 'aafaani mimmab talaaka bihi wa fadhalani 'alaa kathirim mimman khalaqa tafdhila.'
The good thing about this du'a is that the difficulty/hardship/illness shall be erased once this du'a is recited.
A du'a for all illnesses, which are difficult to get rid of can be recited by praying the al-Fatihah forty-one times, between the Fajr 2 rak'ah sunnahs and 2 rak'ah fard prayer. Then to blow upon the face of the ill person, shall Insha'Allah get rid of whatever illness that person carries.
Hair Loss
This du'a should be read in odd numbers, as many times as you wish, with this in mind that the more you pray it, the more effective it will be, and that you must also continue to pray your five times salah, and other ritual practices as prescribed. The du'a is:
You may also recite this 3 times over hair oil, and make 'damm' upon the oil, before applying it to the hair. Similarly, you may recite:
This is for the loss of hair and should be recited 313 times after every salah, afterwhich 'damm' should be made on the hair'.
Good Eyesight
In order to maximise the limit of the eyesight, and to rid any pain of the eye, there is a part of the Qur'an al kareem that can be recited, and 'dumm' (blowing) be made.
That supplication is:
'Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem, farji'il basara hal tara min futur, thummar ji'il basara karratayni yanqalibu ilaykal basaru khasi'aww wa huwa hasir, wa iyyakad ulladhina kafaru la yudhliquna ka bi absari him lamma sami'udh dhikra wa yaquluna innahu la majnunun, wa ma huwa illa dhikrul lil 'alamin'
Remember, that all methods of 'dumm' or 'wazifah' always relate, directly to the word of Allah the Almighty (Qur'an al kareem), and that there is no other word, that can test it. There is a 'Durood Shareef' known as 'Durood-e-Shifa', which can be recited upon collorium (surmah), and then be worn, and is very effective.
That 'Durood-e-Shifa' is:
'Allahumma salle wa sallim wa barik 'ala syedina wa mawlana Muhammadinn tibbil qulubi wa dawa'iha wa 'afiyatil abadaani wa shifa'iha wa nuril absari wa dhiya'iha wa aali hi wa sahbi hi da'imann abada'.
In order to gain the vision of the eyes back to thier original position, someone asked 'Ala Hadrat Mujaddid-e-Din-o-Millat, Mawlana Shah Ahmad Rida Khan (Rehmatullahi' Alaih), that how can I restore my vision?
He gave the following advice:
'Learn the 'Ayat al Kursi', after every salaah, recite this once, when you reach the words 'wa la' ya'udu hu hifzu huma', place your fingers upon your eyes, and recite them very words eleven times, then blow on your fingers and wipe them on your eyes.' This should restore any lost vision that one may have, in the eyes.
May Allah the Almighty, help us to learn the Noble Qur'an al kareem, to act upon it, and to benefit from it, as much as possible, so that we may gain it's benefits, not only in this world, but also the Hereafter.
Disobedient marriage partner
Although there are many deeds (a'mal) that can be done in order to make the husband listen to the wife, especially in cases where, the husband is disobedient, nevertheless, the wife should pray her five times salaah, and sincerely make du'a to Allah the Almighty to bring the husband back onto the straight path.
The Nad-e-'Ali, which is a very powerful recitation can be recited 47 times, afterwhich one may blow on their hands, and wipe it all over their body, which will create love between a husband and wife, and whomsoever the reciter will talk to, will then become obedient.
The Nad-e-'Ali is:
'Bismillah hir Rahmanir Rahim, Nad-e-'Aliyyin mazharal 'Aja'ibi tajid hu 'awnal laka fin nawa'ibi kullu hammiw wa ghammin sayanjali bi nabuwwati ka Ya Rasul Allahi wa bi wilaayati ka Ya 'Aliyu ya 'Aliyu ya 'Aliyu'
It is expected that when one start's acting upon this, that they do not stop, until they are quietly confident that what they intended for, has been achieved.
Childless couple
Sometimes it maybe that Allah the Almighty, has not destined a certain couple to have children together, therefore they cant have children. Nevertheless, no matter how hard one person tries, they can never change the will of Allah the Almighty.
There is a du'a you can pray its called Du'a-e-Zakariyya (alayhi asalam) :
(O my Lord! Leave me not single (childless), though You are the Best of the inheritors)
And you may also pray:
(O my Lord! Grant me from You a good offspring. You are indeed the All-Hearer of invocation)
The best thing to do is to become close to Allah the Almighty, by praying five times salaah, and praying the Qur'an al kareem, and being conscious of the fact that Allah the Almighty has given us everything else, and He will eventually give us a child as well. To have belief in His power (qudrah), is something which previous Prophets (alayhim as-salam) have had. This will then become a Sunnah of theirs which will become even more virtuous.
May Allah the Almighty help us all and give us patience, when needed the most, and may He fulfill all of our supplications, that we make, for His pleasure. (Amin)
Good pious children
Children should be taught all the du'as from an early age. If they can recite, then they should know the 'First Kalimah', they should be told to recite this often, as it is the 'afdhal udh dhikr'. They should know all the six Kalimahs including 'Iman-e-Mufassal' and 'Iman-e-Mujmal'.
They should know du'as which would increase their knowledge, and one such du'a is:
'Increase my knowledge, my Lord'
One should try to make the children pray five times Salaah, every day, so that they get into the habit of it, when they are older. Similarly, they should be told to recite some verses of the Qur'an al kareem everyday, so that they do not distant themselves from it.

These are some of the du'as that are easy to learn, and are most beneficial.
Quickness of Learning
Du'a relating to the quickening of the learning, or for the sharpness of memory are as follows:
'Rabbi zidni 'ilmann'
This is probably the most famous, and the most effective verse of the Qur'an al kareem, in relation to the above.
Before reciting al Qur'an
Before reciting the Qur'an al kareem, or studying an important book ; one may read:
'Bismillahi wa Subhaan Allahi wa la ilaaha illallahu wallahu akbar wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billahil 'aliyyil 'azimi adada kulli harfinn kutiba wa yuktabu abadal 'Abidina wa Daharad Dahirina wa sallallahu ta'alaa 'alaa syidina Muhammadiw wa 'alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa sallam.'
Perfection in learning
If one wishes not to waste a single letter, of what he has learnt ; then the pious have stated that before he starts to study or read, he should recite:
'Allahummaf tah 'alayna hikmata ka wan shur 'alayna rahmata ka ya dhal jalali wal ikrami'
Rewarding Employment
Where one feels that they are not receiving enough income, and that they are not being able to pass by in their everyday living then a good wazifah' to recite for the provision of sustenance is also stated in the Qur'an al kareem.
It is as follows:
'And Allah the Almighty is the best provider of sustenance'
If one were to recite, the above verse, as many times as they could each day, then by the Power of Allah the Almighty, and the Qur'an al-Hakeem, they shall begin to notice the difference in their income, or theirself.
You shall either be content (qana'ah) with what you are gaining, which is a good characteristic to recieve, or Allah the Almighty will make provision for your improvement. (Amin)
In addition to this, you should also be firm on your five times salaah, because the five times salaah, carries so much benefits for this world, and the hereafter, that you will not be able to imagine.
May Allah the Almighty keep us all steadfast upon the religion of Islam, and upon five times salaah, and upon recitation of the Qur'an al kareem, especially when the Muslim Ummah is facing up to so much destruction in the world today. (Amin)
Du'a-e-Jameelah
Here are some benefits of Du'a-e-Jameelah:
One who recites it after Salaat al Fajr gets credit of three hundred pilgrimages; equal to that of Hadrat Adam alayhis salaam.
One who recites it after Salaat al Duhar gets credit of five hundred pilgrimages; equal to that of Hadrat Ibrahim alayhis salaam.
One who recites it after Salaat al Asr gets credit of One hundred pilgrimages; equal to that of Hadrat Yunus alayhis salaam.
One who recites it after Salaat al Isha gets credit of One Thousand pilgrimages; equal to that of Hadrat Musa alayhis salaam.
And One who recites this after Salaat al Tahajjud gets credit of one lakh Pilgrimages; Equal to that of The Most Beloved Prophet Muhammed (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam)
Reciting Du'a-e-Jameelah : Thawaab of 100,000 Hajj
A person who recites Du'a-e-Jameelah after Tahajjud prayers, then Allah Ta 'ala will give him reward equivalent to Hadrat Mohammad (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) performing 100,000 Hajj, and in addition the reward for reciting the Qur'an al kareem 1000 times, releasing 1,000 slaves and feeding 1,000 hungry and thirsty people. There is lesser but substantial reward for reciting this Du'a after Fajr, Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha prayers. It must be remembered the reward would be of Maqbool Hajj, as the reward is of Hajj performed by the Beloved Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) and secondly, reciting this Du'a in Ramadhan multiplies the reward many times. This Du'a is found in most Panj Surahs.
Ya Jameelo! Ya Allaho, Ya Qareebo! Ya Allaho, Ya Ajeebo! Ya Allaho, Ya Mujeebo! Ya Allaho, Ya Raoofo! Ya Allaho, Ya Maroofo! Ya Allaho, Ya Mannano! Ya Allaho, Ya Dayyano! Ya Allaho, Ya Burhano! Ya Allaho, Ya Sultano! Ya Allaho, Ya Musta-aano! Ya Allaho, Ya Muhsino! Ya Allaho, Ya Muta-aali! Ya Allaho, Ya Rahmano! Ya Allaho, Ya Raheemo! Ya Allaho, Ya Haleemo! Ya Allaho, Ya Aleemo! Ya Allaho, Ya Kareemo! Ya Allaho, Ya Jaleelo! Ya Allaho, Ya Majeedo! Ya Allaho, Ya Hakeemo! Ya Allaho, Ya Muqtadiro! Ya Allaho, Ya Ghafooro! Ya Allaho, Ya Ghaffaro! Rehmatullahi ta'ala alaih

O Allah , of Grace I ask You its perfection;
and of protection its duration;
and of mercy its completion;
and of health its attainment.
Of livelihood, I ask its comfort;
and of life its happiness;
and of virtue its completion;
and of blessings its totality;
and of graciousness its sweetness;
and of benevolence the nearest.
O Allah, terminate with happiness our final end
and fulfil for us our hopes beyond expectations.
Join with well-being and good health
our early mornings and dusky evenings,
and set Your mercy as our final end and outcome.
Pour the abundance of Your Forgiveness
upon our sins, and favour us with the
removal of our faults.
Give us piety as a provision and place
our efforts in the strengthening
of Your Religion.
In You is our trust and upon You our dependence.
O Allah, strengthen us on the road of sincerity
and righteousness and protect us
in this world from that which will be cause
for regret on the Final Day.
Lighten for us the burden of our sins
and bestow upon us the blessings of those

from us the evils of those who do evil.

May the blessings of Allah be upon Muhammmad,
his family and all of his companions.
And praise belongs to Allah alone, Lord of the worlds.
Troubles, afflictions & hardships
Du'a from the Qur'an al kareem:
'And we send in the Qur'an, that which is healing, and a mercy to the believers, and it adds loss only to the unjust'
(al Qur'an; 17;82)
If a person obey's what Allah the Almighty has ordered and commanded him to do, such as pray the five times salah, recite the Qur'an al kareem, obey his/her parents and the elderly, seek the knowledge of his religion, and have good character, in the way the beloved Messenger Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam has told us to have, then no matter how great a calamity befalls a believer, he will take it like a pinch of salt!
Here are a few recitations one can perform, once he fulfils his duties to Allah the Almighty first.
To read the Darood Shareef eleven times before & after reciting:
'Who is it which reaches the cry of the destitute, and rids all hardship'
(Surah an Naml : 62)
This can be recited 500 times after the Isha' salah every day, for 40 days. Insha'Allah you will be eased of your difficulty.
The right marriage partner
The most important wazifah, or du'a, that a person can do, for any worldly gain, or for gaining in the akhira, is to pray the five times salaah, and make as much recitation of the Qur'an al kareem, as possible.
It is only when you start doing this, that other du'as, will start to have a positive effect. Otherwise it is no use, as what good is a ceiling when there are no walls, or what good is a roof, when there are no foundations. However in finding the right spouse, the following is very useful:
'Subhan alladhi khalaqal azwaja kullaha mimma tumbitul ardu wa min anfusi him wa mimma la ya'lamun'
'Pure is He who has made all pairs of what the earth grows, and of themselves, and of those things, of which they have no knowledge' (al Qur'an 36:36)
This verse must be recited 3313 times after the 'Isha' salaah, for a period of 21 days. You must also recite any 'Darood Shareef' 11 times, before and after the recitation.
Illness & Sickness
Hadrat Abu Hurayrah (Radi Allahu anhu) says that once the Most Beloved Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) came to me whilst I was ill, and said to me:
'Shall I not recite upon you that, which Hadrat Jibra'il (alayhis 'salam) had recited upon me?'
I said : 'Why not'
The Beloved Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) said:
'Bismillahi arqika wallahu yashfika min da'inn fiya ka wa min sharrin nafathati fil 'ukad wa min sharri hasidin idha hasad'
''In the name of Allah I do this spell, Allah give you healing from all illnesses that are in you, and from the evil of those who recite and blow from amongst the groups, and from the evil of jealousy, when he starts to become jealous''
If you learn and recite the above du'a, Insha'Allah, all your illnesses shall be overcome.
Before praying
Du'as taken from AHadith, before we pray we say:
Allahumma ba'id baini wa baina khataya-ya kama ba'adta baina al-mashriqi wal-maghrib,
Allahumma naqqani min khatya-ya kama yunaqqa athawbul abyad min ad-danas,
Allahumma ighsilni min khataya-ya bil-ma'iwal-thaji wal-barad.
O Allah ! Separate me (far) from my sins as you have separated (far) the East and West,
O Allah! Cleanse me of my sins as white cloth is cleansed from dirt,
O Allah! Wash me of my sins with water, ice and snow.

Hardship/Poor
It is stated in the book called 'Mawahib ladunniyah' that a man came to the presence of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam), and said that the world had turned away from me, to which the Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) replied:
"Pray the tasbih of the angels"
The man asked "What is the tasbih of the angels?"
The Beloved Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) said:
"After dawn in the morning, before the sun rises pray:
'Subhanallahi wa bi hamdi hi Subhanallahil 'azim' - 100 times"
After hearing this, the man went, and returned after a few days and stated:
"Oh Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam), there is so much in my house now, that there is no room, anymore!"
Those two sentences are light upon reciting by the tongue, heavy upon the scales on Judgement Day, and Beloved to the Almighty, (Bukhari). Those two sentences above should be recited everyday to overcome any difficulty.
Mealtime du'as
Du'a before commencing a meal :
Bismillahi wabarakatillah
(I am eating) In the name of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala and with the blessings of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala (Hakim)
Du'a at the end of the meal :
Al-hamdu lillahilladhi at-amana' wasaqana waja-alana minal muslimin
All praise is due to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala who gave us food and drink and made us Muslims (Tirmidhi)
Khatam: Rewards for the deceased
The most common form of action that people do, as a form of recitation for their deceased, is the 'khatm-e-Qur'an', which is the completion of the recitation of the noble Qur'an al hakeem, and then conveying it's reward to those people who are deceased in a household, friends and relatives, and for the community of the Most Beloved Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa aalihi wa Sallam).
You may also convey the reward of reciting the 'Surah-al-Fatihah', which is known as the 'Alhamdu lilah', as this Surah, carries the reward of the whole Qur'an Shareef, so it's a much easier way to convey reward to the deceased, rather than having to pray the whole Qur'an al kareem.
Similarly, you may also recite the 'Ya Sin Sharif', which is known as the heart of the Qur'an al kareem, and the essence of the Qur'an al kareem. This can be recited as many times as possible, and then with the recitation of the 'Fatihah', the reward can be conveyed to the deceased.
Remember, there is no limit, to the amount of people that you can convey the reward to. It can be conveyed to your relatives and friends, both living and deceased, or it can be conveyed to the whole community of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam), as quoted above. There is no limit.
'Quls' may also be recited, starting with 'Qul Ya ayyuhal kafirun', then 'Qul huwallahu ahad', three times, and then, 'Qul a'udhu bi rabbil falaq', and 'Qul a'udhu bi rabbin nas', and then the 'fatihah' etc.
The last three verses of Surah Al-Baqarah, also have a significant effect upon the deceased, which begins 'Amanar Rasula bima unzila', to the extent that anything you do, or pray, can all be conveyed to whomever you wish, whenever you like.
May Allah the Almighty help us, to do all we can, to send and gain reward to the deceased, and to the Ummah of the Most Beloved Messenger of Allah, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam).
125,000 khatam
The '125,000 khatam' is for the aid of specific problems.
It is recommended you pray this du'a as a family due to the numerical quantity of the du'a. The 'khatam' will consist of you reciting:
You recite the above 125,000 times. It maybe done in a group, and within a certain period of time. When the day of the 'khatam' arrives, and the food is prayed over, a special supplication should be made to Allah the Almighty, specifying the problem that you have, the food will then be shared by everyone. Insha'Allah, your supplication shall be answered, and by the Grace of the Almighty
Du'a for this World & the Hereafter
Prayers for this World and the Hereafter :
Allahummaghfirli warhamni wa afeni warzuqni
O Allah ! Forgive me, take pity upon me, presrve me, and grant me sustenance
Allahumma ahsin aqibatana fil umoore kulleha wa ajirna min khizyid-dunya wa azaabil aakhirate
O Allah ! Make sublime in their outcome; all our actions; and save us from disgrace in this world,
and save from the chastisement in the Hereafter
Du'a for Noor
Du'a to attain Noor:
Allahumma-al fi qalbi noor'an wa fi lisani noor'an wa fi basri noor'an wa fi sam'i noor'an wa 'an yamini noor'an wa'an yasaari noor'an min fawqi noor'an wa mintahti noor'an wa min amaami nooa'an wa min khalfi noor'an wa-jal li fi nafsi noor'an wa'a zim li noor'an
O Allah ! Make a light (noor) in my heart a light, and in my tongue a light, and in my sight a light, and in my hearing a light, and on my right a light, and on my left a light, and over me a light, and under me a light, and in front of me a light, and behind me a light, and make for myself a light, and grant me a great light
Ameen.
Moving house
This du'a and related information is for when one is moving home or to a new country. May Allah protect you, and your house from all forms of evil.
You may want to give some sadaqah or khayrat, and even lillah, in order to be grateful to Allah the Almighty, as it will be a protection for you, your house, and everyone that dwells therein. It may be given in your name, or your wifes name, or one of your childrens name, similarly, it may be sent away to another country, to some poor students of Islam, or other poor people, and they may benefit.
You can also make physical worship like go on 'umrah or even go to visitation to the shrine of a famous saint. These are the places where protection from all evils can also be asked for.
When you do move in, you can do a 'khatam' of the Qur'an al kareem, and send the reward to whomever you like, and in the final supplication, ask for your house to be protected.
Furthermore, you may want to consult a shaykh, who will grant you a ta'wiz, for the protection and presevance of your house, family, and everything in it. You may want to recite:
Praying this endlessly so that Allah Almighty grants you His protection, from evils of the people and the world. This is free insurance brother, take it on board and you will receive the benefits of both worlds. May Allah the Almighty protect you, your home, and family at all times. (Amin)
Good Company
Always remember, if you dont have any or many friends, then Allah the Almighty is your friend. When you remember Him, He remembers you, and He gives you more than you can have ever imagined, and more than anyone else has given you.
You should try and keep the company of good people, in return, it will make you good. You should always pray with them and do dhikr with them. It will make you feel better than you what you feel now.
If you pray:
And after you have acted upon the above, it will make you closer to the Almighty. You may recite this as many times as you wish in a day. In addition to this, try and recite as much of the Qur'an al kareem as possible, as this is also necessary.
May Allah the Almighty keep you away from bad company, and may He include you into the best of companies. (Amin)
Morning/Evening Du'as
Du'a for the morning,
As bahna wa asbahal mulko lil lahe rabbil aalameen
'' We enter upon morning and so does the creation of Allah, The Lord of the Worlds ''
Another morning prayer:
Allahumma inni asaluka khaira haazal yaume fath'ahu wa nusrahu wa noorahu wa barkatuhu wa hudahu wa aoozobika min sharri ma feehi wa sharri ma baadahu
'' O Allah ! I beg of thee, the good of this day, the victory thereof, the help thereof, the light thereof, the blessing thereof; and the guidance thereof; and I seek refuge in Thee from the evil that be therein. And the evil that be thereafter. ''
To be recited at the time of dusk/evening:
Am-saina wa amsal mulku lil lahe rabbil aalameen
'' We enter upon the evening, and so doth the creation of Allah, The Lord of the Worlds ''
Another evening prayer:

Allahummaqini azabaka yauma tab-asu ibadaka
'' O Allah ! Save me from the pangs of the Day of Resurrection ''
Another du'a before retiring to sleep :
Allahumma bismeka amootu wa ahya
'' O Allah ! In Thy name do i die and live ''
At the time of awakening :
Alhamdu lil lahil lazi ahyaana baada ma amatana wa ilaihin-nushooro
'' All Praise to Allah, He Who revived us to life after giving us death, and to Him we shall have to return ''
Bathroom
Everyday Du'as;
Du'a to recite [at the time of entering the bathroom] to relief oneself :
Bismillahe allahumma inni aoozobika minal khubusi wal khaba-ise
In the name of Allah. O' Allah! I seek refuge in Thee from the foul male and female devils
Du'a to recite [at the time of leaving the bathroom] after reliefing oneself :
Ghufranaka al-hamdo lil-lahil-lazi az haba annil aza wa a-fani
(I ask) Thy pardon. Praise be to Allah Who relieved me from the suffering and gave me health

Sayyid al-Istighfar

The Beloved of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam used this particular expression - Sayyid al-Istighfar - literally, 'the master of supplications' to indicate that this is the best of supplications for those in need, and which will fulfil the need—sincere seeking of forgiveness.
